After Eagles sign DeMarco Murray, Kenney takes another Twitter shot at Christie
Remember back in December when Tweetin’ Iggles-fan Jim Kenney, then a city councilman, called New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie a “fat-assed … creep” for cozying up to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones?
And remember last month when Kenney, now a Democratic mayoral candidate, told NinetyNine that “self-control and discipline” would be employed in his future social media interactions with the public and the political realm?
(The quote itself: “There’s certain things you have to say, ‘Alright, I’ll have to forego that.'”)
Well, the Eagles’ Thursday signing of star Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray was not something which Kenney could forego. To wit:
Granted, this Tweet was substantially more moderate than prior ones that garnered bi-state political buzz. But, let’s break it down, anyway.
The period before Murray’s name ensures that the tweet can be disseminated far and wide.
In lieu of a personal shot, the “tries to close it” line is a not-so-veiled dig at Christie’s George Washington Bridgegate problem.
By choosing the Ben Franklin Bridge, though, Kenney opened himself up to criticism.
You see, the Ben is not located between Philly International and the Eagles’ South Philly compound.
Granted, the Platt Bridge doesn’t touch New Jersey, so that was out. leaving the logical diss as implying that Christie could close the Walt Whitman Bridge. But even that is strained, what with Murray not having to drive over that green jawn yet.
But ¯_(ツ)_/¯. Landing the NFL’s leading rusher is cause for irrational celebration around these Super Bowl-less parts.
