University City Review: Campus Inn Might Move to Commercial District
Nicole Contosta reports that news has emerged that Campus Inn extended-stay hotel might relocate to a currently demolished site at 41st and Walnut Streets. However, this site is not owned by Penn, so nothing has been finalized and the developers plan to continue its process through the Zoning Board of Adjustments for the current site at 40th and Pine Streets.
This project has been embrioled in controversy since it was announced in 2007, primarily because neighborhood residents argue that an 11-story hotel chain is not the appropriate form for a generally low-scale historic neighborhood in West Philadelphia.
