PA Planners: Take action regarding SB850

A message from the American Planning Association, Pennsylvania Chapter:

The PA Senate recently passed SB850, their version of the State’s FY09-10 budget, which eliminates funding for programs important to planners. Budget negotiations with the House and the Governor’s Administration are currently underway and we would like to communicate our support for the important and needed programs housed at the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) including:
•    LUPTAP which included grants for planning, support staff salaries, and training.
•    New Communities which includes Elm Street and Main Street.
•    Shared Municipal Services program.

We as planners value these essential programs which provide vital resources and assistance to Pennsylvania’s local governments. These programs lead to revitalized communities, efficient governments and better long-term decision making.

We strongly urge you to contact your State Senators and Representatives and share with them the importance of including continual funding for the FY09-10 state budget for these necessary programs. Share with them specific examples of how these programs have benefited municipalities in your region.
