69 new H1N1 cases in Delaware

State health officials say they saw a slight increase in the number of H1N1 flu cases over the last week. The total number of new confirmed cases over the last week is 69, with an additional 31 cases of influenza like illnesses. Health officials also confirmed two cases of seasonal flu during the last week.

State health officials say they saw a slight increase in the number of H1N1 flu cases over the last week. The total number of new confirmed cases over the last week is 69, with an additional 31 cases of influenza like illnesses. Health officials also confirmed two cases of seasonal flu during the last week.

More H1N1 vaccine is expected to be delivered to the state next week. This week, health officials are able to order more than 9,500 doses of H1N1 flu shots, plus 7,300 doses of FluMist for H1N1. Director of the Delaware Division of Public Health Dr. Karyl Rattay says the vaccine should soon be available to OB/GYN offices, “So they can vaccinate our highest risk group: pregnant women. Likely as early as next week, pregnant women will have the opportunity to receive the novel H1N1 vaccination at their OB/GYN offices.” A small quantity of vaccine should also be available to licensed child care providers who care for children under six months old.

Health officials hope all high risk groups will be able to get the vaccine for H1N1 from schools, colleges, pharmacies and public health clinics by next month.  For more info on the effort to fight H1N1 in Delaware, go to flu.delaware.gov.
