5 post-holiday family-friendly events for the weekend
Now that the holidays are over, things have calmed down a bit, but there are still some promising ideas for Philly families this weekend.
Saturday: Upcycled architecture for kids
Families can create an “upcyled city” at the constructing play workshop at the Philadelphia Center for Architecture. Learn how architects use found materials to create models, and then work collaboratively with other participants to design create your own city.
The Please Touch Museum plays host to two performances of the Ugandan Kids Choir on Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. Families will enjoy traditional African songs and dances. The choir is sponsored by Childcare Worldwide, and the tour is designed to break the cycle of poverty in Uganda.
Take the kids inside and warm up to The Lego Movie. This super-fun flick was a huge hit last year. See this great combo of catchy music and dystopian brick plots on the big screen once again. 10:30 a.m. and free for members.
Sunday: Ice Age at the Waterworks
In keeping with the theme of water, the Fairmount Water Works is screening an environmentally-themed movie each month. This month, families can enjoy “Ice Age: The Meltdown” at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Admission and movie are free.
Friday through Sunday: Beauty & the Beast
Enjoy the Arden’s whimsical take on this fairytale classic. Recommended for families with children 5 and older, this version includes two sisters, the city of London and a beastly beast. Runs through Feb. 1.
