Spirit of Freedom tells the story of Irish independence, beginning 100 years ago with the Easter Rising. Akin to America’s 4th of July, the Easter Rising of 1916 created the Ireland we know and love today. An inside story about two iconic artists – an American painter and a Russian ballet dancer – and how they created a now famous set of paintings. During the 70s, the American painter Jamie Wyeth (son of Andrew) did a series of studies and paintings of Rudolf Nureyev, the legendary ballet dancer who defected from Russia and revitalized western ballet. Written with the express permission and support of Jamie Wyeth, this brand new play by David Rush imagines what their electric encounters may have been like, what secrets were revealed about the world of painting and international dance, and how their relationship evolved…changing each of them. York College art instructor, JoAnne Schiavone will teach participants to make hand-made books, sewing the finest book-binding materials together to create your own hand-made journal. This class is a compliment to the March 19th Paste Papers course taught by the same instructor. Materials are included and yours to keep, open to all skill levels. 031816lizzyA Brave Heart: The Lizzie Valesquez Story, March 24th

This inspiring documentary is the story of 26-year-old, 58-pound Lizzie Velasquez, who went from cyber-bullying victim to anti-bullying crusader. Born with a rare syndrome that prevents her from gaining weight, Lizzie was first bullied in elementary school for looking different, and later as a teenager who discovered a Youtube video calling her the “world’s ugliest woman.” The film chronicles her as she campaigns for the first Federal anti-bullying bill.
