About the face

December 13, 2013

Guests: Jesse Taylor, Sharrona Pearl, David Sarwer

What’s in a face?  We look at hundreds of faces everyday and no two are the same. But what does the unique mix of features, wrinkles, skin, bone and expression tell us about the person?  This hour, we examine the human face, what it reveals and how it shapes our identity.  We’ll look at what happens to the sense of self after a facial transplant and discuss the popularity of cosmetic surgery.  Marty talks with JESSE TAYLOR, Chair of University of Pennsylvania’s Face Transplant group, SHARRONA PEARL, Assistant Professor of Communication at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania and DAVID SARWER, Professor Psychology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
