The divorce generation with author Susan Gregory Thomas

Listen

Hour 2

SUSAN GREGORY THOMAS says that the defining question of her generation, those born between 1965-1980, is “when did your parents divorce?”  Statistics back up her claim.  Almost half of Generation X’s childhoods were marked by divorce.  Thomas’ own parents ended their marriage in that era and like many who shared her experience, she vowed that her own children would never know the pain of divorce.  But after 16 years, despite that she had found her true “soulmate,”  her own marriage came to an end. Thomas  has written a new memoir, In Spite of Everything, in which she explores her own experiences with divorce — as a child and a wife — and how the divorce boom of the 1970’s  and 1980’s has affected a generation and their children.
