A native Canadian, Arlen Hlusko entered Curtis in 2011 and studied with Carter Brey and Peter Wiley. Currently she is a 2015-2016 ArtistYear Fellow at the Curtis Institute of Music. Her program:
Bach: Suite No. 3 in C major, BWV 1009

The six suites for unaccompanied cello by Bach are popular among performers. Arlen performs the most popular of his six, Suite No. 3 in C major, BWV 1009 believed to had been composed in 1720 with seven movements: Prélude; Allemande; Courante; Sarabande; Bourrée; Gigue.
Barber: Sonata, Op. 6

Samuel Barber (’34) while still a student at Curtis Institute of Music composed this piece in 1932, during the time he was on a trip in Europe. He dedicated the piece to his teacher Rosario Scalero. In the cello repertoire, this sonata holds a prominent place even today. It is in three movements: Allegro ma non troppo; Adagio—Presto—Adagio; Allegro appassionato.
