The beleagured Philadelphia School District is still reeling from closures and cutbacks in response to the 304 million dollar budget deficit that was revealed last year.

It’s twelve years since the district was placed under the authority of the overarching School Reform Commission. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett announced today that its five-member board will next be headed by current Philadelphia City Councilman Bill Green, pending state senate confirmation.

Bill Green visited WHYY today to map out his vision for the district.
