Mozart: Sonata in E-flat major, K. 302
Nadir Khashimov, violin; Hugh Sung, piano

In 1778, Mozart decided to compose six sonatas for violin and keyboard in the same style as the six sonatas for harpsichord and violin (gusto) by the Joseph Schuster that he himself performed as a duet with violin accompaniment in Mannheim, Germany. The Sonata in E-flat major, K. 302 is the second sonata of his set of six. The movements are marked: Allegro; Rondo: Andante grazioso.

Prokofiev: Violin Sonata No. 1 in F minor, Op. 80
Nadir Khashimov, violin; Hugh Sung, piano

Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata No. 1 in F minor, Op. 80 is a four- movement piece and is considered one of his most darkest and grim of his works. Prokofiev describes the end of the 1st and 4th movements as “wind passing through a graveyard”. The first and third movements were played at his funeral. The movements are marked: Andante assai; Allegro brusco; Andante; Allegrissimo.

Bach: Chaconne from Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004
Nadir Khashimov, violin

Chaconne is the fifth movement of Bach’s Violin Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004 for solo violin. The Partita for Violin No. 2, BWV was written between the years 1717-1720. This final movement is longer than the other four movements.

Tchaikovsky: Valse-Scherzo, Op. 34
Nadir Khashimov, violin; Hugh Sung, piano

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer that lived between 1840 and 1893. He could be considered the most popular Russian composer in history. Just think of the ballets Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker. Valse-Scherzo, Op. 34 is a short piece that last about five minutes.
