Tots on tech: young children and screen time

Listen 00:48:45

Guests: Jennifer Zosh, Michael Rich

We’re all familiar with teens tethered to their smart phones or iPads, but it turns out toddlers are too. A survey of 350 Philadelphia parents found that a majority of children under the age of four have their own tablet, smart phone or television and spend a lot of unsupervised time on them. This hour, what are little kids doing on their devices and what effect do digital devices have on the developing brains? We’ll also survey the apps aimed at young children and get some recommendations. Guest host Mary Cummings-Jordan talks JENNIFER ZOSH, associate professor of human development and family studies at Penn State, Brandywine, and MICHAEL RICH, director of the Center on Media and Child Health at Boston Children’s Hospital.
