The Pakistani Taliban school attack ; restoring relations with Cuba
ListenGuests: Michael Kugelman, Peter Kornbluh
The brutal attack on a school in Peshwar, Pakistan, that killed over 130 people, mostly students, has been met with outrage worldwide. In claiming responsibility, Pakistan’s Taliban said it was retaliating against the county’s military for their extensive ground operations. Joining us to talk about the situation in Pakistan is MICHAEL KUGELMAN, senior program associate for South and Southeast Asia at the Woodrow Wilson Center. Then, we turn to President Obama’s surprising announcement Wednesday that the United States will restore diplomatic relations with Cuba. We will explore the new policy, the secret negotiations leading up to it, and what it means for America and for Cuba with PETER KORNBLUH, who directs the Cuba Documentation Project at the National Security Archive, at George Washington University and is the co-author of the new book, Back Channel to Cuba: The Hidden History of Negotiations between Washington and Havana.
