Hour 1

The Obama administration has announced new fuel efficiency standards for the automobile industry and truck makers.  Cars and light trucks will have to get 54.5 mph by 2025.  Big rig trucks will have to improve fuel efficiency by 20% by 2018 which will save $50 billion in fuel costs over the next five years.  So what will these new fuel economy standards mean for the auto and truck manufacturers?  What technology will help them meet the new rules?  And what will the new standards mean for the environment and consumers?  Our guests are MICHELLE KREBS, Editor-in-Chief of AutoObserver and Senior Analyst for Edmunds.com, and DAVID FRIEDMAN, an engineer and deputy director of the Clean Vehicles Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists.  Do you have a fuel efficient car or are thinking of trading your gas guzzler in for one?  Give us a call and join the conversation.
