After losing her youngest daughter, Giana, to a heroin overdose, ELISE SCHILLER combined her memories with Giana’s journals and medicals records. The end result – Even if Your Heart Would Listen – is both a tribute to her daughter and a criticism of the way the American medical system treats and discusses those affected by opioid use disorder. She joins to tell us about Giana and her accomplishments as well as her eventual addiction and what it was like to navigate the series of residential and outpatient treatment facilities with her daughter. A Philadelphia local, Elise also vocalizes her thoughts on supervised injection sites in Philadelphia and the opioid crisis that continues to ravage families like her own.
