Physicist Lisa Randall on dark matters and dinosaurs
Listen 00:48:43Guest: Lisa Randall
Dark matter makes up 26 percent of our universe. It’s the stuff we cannot see, feel, smell or taste but we know it exists, that it is powerful, and that it keeps the universe in gravitational equilibrium and prevents it from collapsing on itself or disappearing into nothingness. In her newest book, Dark Matter and the Dinosaurs: The Astounding Interconnectedness of the Universe, acclaimed physicist LISA RANDALL, explores and explains the concept of dark matter and connects it to the history of the universe as well as its contributions to the development and extinction of life. She elucidates her theory as to the demise of dinosaurs – crediting dark matter as the cause of a collision with a huge object that crashed onto the earth. Randall studies theoretical particle physics and cosmology at Harvard University and is the author of two previous best-selling books – Knocking on Heavens Door and Warped Passages.
