Pennsylvania’s budget battle
Listen
Hour 1
There’s a lot at stake in Pennsylvania’s budget battle, especially for education. In his first budget proposal, Governor Tom Corbett sought to cut more than $1.6 billion in funding for schools and universities, including a 50 percent cut to the 14 universities that make up the State System of Higher Education, as well as Penn State, Pitt, Temple and Lincoln. Joining us to discuss the negotiations, protests and rhetoric surrounding the budget are WHYY’s Harrisburg reporter SCOTT DETROW; House Majority Leader MIKE TURZAI, Republican from Allegheny County; and state Senator VINCENT HUGHES, a Philadelphia Democrat and Minority Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
