Analysis of President Obama’s trip to Mexico

Is a new Mexico emerging? That’s what President Obama said in a speech Friday during his two-day trip to Mexico, his fourth as President. He met with Mexico’s president, Enrique Pena Nieto who took office in December 2012, to discuss many issues including developing a stronger economic relationship between the bordering countries and setting a positive tone for their three-and-a-half year relationship. Developing economic growth, improving trade relations, tackling organized crime, immigration reform and higher education innovation were among the range of future collaborations discussed. What will it take for Mexico become a manufacturing powerhouse? Can the U.S. reform a fair immigration policy? How will a well-regulated border be maintained?
