Joan Walsh asks “What’s the Matter with White People?”

Hour Two

Salon columnist JOAN WALSH has written a book looking at the parallel narratives of how the standard of living has changed drastically since the 1970s. She sees two arguments of the bankruptcy of America: one side is providing benefits to the underachieving and undeserving, and the other views the bankruptcy as a result of providing benefits to the very rich. Walsh looks at the political polarization of 2012 Presidential election as a place to look to the future: which candidate will receive the vote of the white, working class, which used to be the bedrock of the Democratic Party? Joan Walsh’s new book is called “What’s the Matter with White People? Why We Long for a Golden Age that Never Was.”
