ISIS and the Syria conundrum

The beheading of another American journalist by ISIS has further increased the imperative for the US to respond to the growing threat of the militant group, yet the White House has yet to reveal a cohesive strategy in suppressing their influence in Syria, or the broader region. The situation is made difficult by existing tensions between the US and the Syrian government, who also oppose the so-called “Islamic State.” This hour, we take a look at the crisis and what the US’s options are in dealing with this group of extremist militants in Syria and the region.  Marty is joined by TRUDY RUBIN, who writes the Worldview Column for The Philadelphia Inquirer, and by JOSHUA LANDIS, Associate Professor and Director of the Center for Middle East Studies at the University of Oklahoma.
