Iraq and the Islamic insurgency

Listen

Guests: Shadi Hamid, Trudy Rubin

Violence and chaos continues to spread in Iraq.  The Islamic militant group ISIS declared the creation of an Islamic caliphate, or state, spanning parts of Syria and Iraq.  Meanwhile Sunni and Kurdish lawmakers walked out of the first parliamentary meeting on Tuesday after efforts failed to form a new, more inclusive government to fight the Islamic insurgency. Marty talks about the crisis in Iraq and what it means for Iraq, the region and the United States with TRUDY RUBIN, Worldview columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer and SHADI HAMID, author of Temptations of Power: Islamists and Illiberal Democracy in a New Middle East.
