Inside Congress: the filibuster, immigration and farm bill
ListenHour 1
GUESTS: SARAH BINDER and DAVID LIGHTMAN
How does Congress get anything done with so much partisan gridlock? Slowly. The climate in Congress has cooled from the start of the week as a threat of a so-called “nuclear option” from the Senate Democrats, on changing the rules for executive branch nominations, has eased: a vote was made to debate President Obama’s nominee for director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. And from the other chamber, House members are digesting a new farm bill passed without food stamps. And will the immigration bill that just passed the Senate “go to die” in the House like many congressional experts predict? Our guests, George Washington University political science professor SARAH BINDER and DAVID LIGHTMAN, National Political Correspondent for McClatchy Newspapers, will help unravel the issues and personalities within our country’s legislative process..
