If you are a shareholder in a corporation, can you affect its policies of social responsibility? Our guest, SISTER NORA NASH, thinks so. As the Director of Corporate Social Responsibility for the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia in Aston, PA, Nash works with a large, interfaith organization that buys shares in companies that have a social responsibility mission. These shares give them leveraging power to remind these companies of their environmental, social and governmental issues. The sisters are selective of those they invest in, avoiding companies that are involved in the military, tobacco, gambling, and violence in video, TV and movies. Joining Sister Nora is the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia’s Associate Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, THOMAS MCCANEY, who helps monitor the transparency of investment portfolios of corporations from a moral and ethical perspective.
