First-generation students roundtable

Listen 00:48:44

Guests: Yessenia Gutierrez, Hazim Hardeman, Tiana Oliver

Today on Radio Times, Marty is joined by three area students who are the first in their families to attend college. We’re joined by University of Pennsylvania senior YESSENIA GUTIERREZ, who is the outgoing ambassador to the group, 1vyG, which is a Brown University-based consortium of so-called first-generation students. We’re also joined by Temple University senior TIANA OLIVER and Community College of Philadelphia sophomore HAZIM HARDEMAN. They grew up in rough neighborhoods in North Philadelphia. We’ll hear from these three scholars about their respective circumstances, challenges and lessons learned from being the first in their families to become college grads.
