Feedback

Listen

Feedback for how we and what we are doing is everywhere. It can be direct, or indirect. It can be verbal, or non-verbal. It can come from not only the outside world, but also from inside ourselves. It can even come from inanimate objects (like those jeans that are suddenly too tight!)

On this Voices in the Family, Dr. Dan Gottlieb speaks with Harvard professor and author Sheila Heen about her new book Feedback: The Science and Art of Receiving Feedback Well, and how we can learn to take and use the feedback we find everywhere to improve our lives. Heen says that both research and experience tells us that receiving feedback well is a skill that can be taught and refined. We’ll look at why feedback can be so hard to hear, and also how to use it as a fuel for real change.
