Carl Zimmer on Ebola and “Planet of Viruses”

Listen

Guest: Carl Zimmer

The World Health Organization said yesterday that the mortality rate for Ebola has risen to 70%. Almost 9000 people have been infected in Africa and roughly 4500 have die. The WHO warned that within a month we could see 10,000 new cases if the epidemic isn’t brought under control. Today, we talk with New York Times science writer and columnist CARL ZIMMER about the outbreak and the virus, how it evolves and spreads. Zimmer, the author of the book, Planet of Viruses, will also discuss the beneficial viruses, microbes and bacteria that inhabit our planet and our bodies.
