Caring for caregivers

Listen 00:48:43

Guests: Vic Compher, Sandra Bloom

Who cares for the caregivers? A new documentary sheds light on the emotional trauma that professional caregivers often feel from working with traumatized people. In the film Portraits of Professional CAREgivers: Their Passion, Their Pain, we hear from child protective workers, nurses, hospice personnel, medics, police officers and clinical therapists about the “secondary trauma” or “compassion fatigue” they can experience while doing their jobs. Guest host Mary Cummings-Jordan talks with the film-maker VIC COMPHER, who is also a social worker, and SANDRA BLOOM, an associate professor at Drexel University about the psychological toll their jobs can have and the support they need.
