Blowing the whistle on the VA

Listen

Guests: Kristen Ruell and David Wood

The Philadelphia Veteran’s Affairs regional office which handles the benefits of veterans in eastern PA, South Jersey and Delaware has been investigated by the VA Office of the Inspector General for mishandling claims by veterans. The practice of changing dates on claims, as well as other examples of mismanagement, was brought to attention by three of the office’s employees. In this hour of Radio Times, we’ll hear from KRISTEN RUELL, a lawyer and whistle-blower from the Philadelphia office’s Pension Management Center who testified about it before Congress Monday night. Then, as the VA scandal continues, we’ll talk to Huffington Post senior military correspondent DAVID WOOD about this case and his new report on how the Department of Veterans Affairs is misclassifying and overpaying clerks, administrators and other staff.
