Why are testosterone levels falling?
Testosterone among men has been on the decline. Should we be concerned about falling testosterone levels?
Listen 51:09
Testosterone has been in the news a whole lot recently. In July, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced members of the armed services would be screened for low testosterone levels, calling for a “High-T Department of War.” Doctors have voiced their skepticism of how effective such screenings would be.
But a truth lies at the heart of Hegseth’s new policy: testosterone among men has been on the decline. Research has shown that average testosterone levels, even among healthy young adult men, have gotten lower over several decades. Doctors aren’t quite sure why.
Today on Studio 2, we’re asking: should we be concerned about falling testosterone levels? What, if any, impacts are we seeing on society based on this trend? What should men do about possible low T? And how are policies and rhetoric from the Trump administration affecting the culture?
