Atlantic City’s casino industry

Listen

Guests: Bill Ordine, Liza Cartmell and Barbara Dafoe Whitehead

Slumping gambling revenues, bankruptcies, and increased competition from nearby locales have led to real concerns about the future of Atlantic City’s gaming industry. This is the fourth year into a five year grace period Governor Chris Christie has given the seaside resort before he considers expanding casinos to other parts of the Garden State. Today on Radio Times we’ll talk about the future of Atlantic City tourism as a gambling mecca. We’ll start off with BILL ORDINE, editor of PhillyGambles.com, a website that covers the local gaming industry. We’ll also hear from LIZA CARTMELL, president of the Atlantic City Alliance. Then we’ll end the hour talking with BARBARA DAFOE WHITEHEAD, a critic of gambling and author of a recent report from the Institute of Amercian Values, “Why Casinos Matter.”
