Hour 2

[REBROADCAST] The United States higher education system is an international bragging right. Many overseas families send their children off to the States, investing in a commodity that is supposed to have infinite returns. Some brilliant non-legacy teenagers can get into Harvard University. But is there such as thing as equal opportunity for college admissions? Our guest ANDREW FERGUSON chronicles his experience helping his college-age son get into college with his book, Crazy U: One Dad’s Crash Course in Getting His Kid Into College. Ferguson, a senior editor at The Weekly Standard, tells the absurd and frustrating tale of College Planning through prepping for SAT scores; interviewing highly paid college consultants; seeing through the gaming of college rankings; enduring repetitive campus visits; not paying for a the perfect online essay and contemplating the struggle of grades vs. knowledge towards receiving the final college acceptance letter. Ferguson was on Radio Times a few years back for his funny book describing his tour of Abraham Lincoln shrines, Land of Lincoln.
