KATE FLANNERY is best known for playing alcoholic Meredith Palmer in the hit NBC sitcom, The Office. The documentary-style show, set at a paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania, ran for nine seasons and won four Emmys and a Golden Globe. In her nine years of playing Meredith, Kate’s escapades included being dragged to rehab by her boss, Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell), getting set on fire at the Christmas Party, being hit by her boss’s car, and flashing her colleagues on Casual Friday.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Kate hails from a large Irish-American family and is one of seven children. She’s now back in her home city, appearing in a new play – Love, Loss and What I Wore – a collection of intimate stories narrated by women and written by the screenwriting sisters Nora and Delia Ephron. Kate’s TV work includes in The Bernie Mac Show, Boomtown, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Saturday Night Live. The host of TV’s Standup in Stilettos, Kate is also one half of the comedy lounge duo The Lampshades. Before landing her breakthrough role in The Office, Meredith worked as a waitress in Beverley Hills – a job which she kept right through until the second season of The Office. Kate joins us in the studio.
