Guest: Pedro Rivera

School is back in session across the Commonwealth and students and teachers are streaming back into their classrooms over the coming weeks. Some educators have grown anxious over Pennsylvania’s budget stalemate, as some districts have been left in the lurch about how much funding they can expect in the upcoming year. This July, it was announced that 2014-2015 test scores have plummeted, marking the fourth such annual drop, though many note that this was due to an increase in the rigor of state exams. To discuss all of this, we’re joined by Pennsylvania’s new Secretary of Education PEDRO RIVERA. A Philly native, he was most recently the superintendent of The School District of Lancaster. Today we’ll discuss Governor Wolf’s budget, school funding formulas, test scores, his career, and more.
