Guest: MOHAMMED FAIROUZ

New York-based composer, MOHAMMED FAIROUZ, hears music everywhere – on the street, in the subway and in taxis – and through lives of people from different backgrounds. He believes he can overcome the potential fear of this new cosmopolitanism through music, and the musical cannon of  “dead, white, European men” isn’t very important to him. Fairouz, whose in-demand commissions reflect influences of Middle-Eastern modes and Western scales, has composed more than 40 pieces in many different styles including symphonies, opera, choral, chamber and solo works, songs cycles and electronic music. Mohammed Fairouz’ new CD is Native Informant.
