Would you bring your cat to a baseball game?

A minor league baseball team in New Jersey affiliated with the Philadelphia Phillies is inviting cat owners to bring their felines friends to the game. 

The Lakewood BlueClaws are hoping their feline fan-base will turnout Saturday when it plays the West Virginia Power in Lakewood, N.J. 

Fans can bring their cats, which are admitted with a $2 Paw Pass. But the fans must sign a waiver, and the felines must be in carriers or on leashes. The BlueClaws ask that pet owners use proper judgment when deciding if their cat is able to handle the noise, crowd, and atmosphere that they will encounter at a typical BlueClaws game. 

The team may be hoping to avoid the “catastrophe” that halted the Lakeland Flying Tigers’ game in Florida in April. In the 7th inning a cat got on to the field and headed for home plate.

Minor league teams have often held special days for dogs and their owners to help boost attendance but allowing cats is rare. 

The BlueClaws team says it has had success with a Bark in the Park night so organizers figured it was time to honor cats, too.

Special jerseys featuring cats will be auctioned off to benefit charity. An animal rescue group will be on hand to accept donations and offer cats for adoption.
