Water shutoff planned for several Mt. Airy blocks
The water will be shut off for some West Mt. Airy residents tomorrow (3/28/12). The Philadelphia Water Department says it will close a water main from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. and there will be no water for residents on the 700, and 800 blocks of W Allens Lane, and 7200 block of Wayne Ave. PWD crews are currently doing valve and water main work at Allens Lane and Wayne Avenue.
West Allens Lane is closed to through traffic (local traffic only) from McCallum Street to Wissahickon Avenue. Wissahickon Avenue is also closed to through traffic (local traffic only) from Mt. Airy Avenue to Allens Lane.
The water mains being replaced in this project were installed in 1892 and have outlived their useful lifespan.
