Watch President Obama present Terry Gross with National Medal of Arts and Humanities

    Today at 11:45 a.m. President Obama will award the National Humanities Medal to WHYY’s Terry Gross.

    Other National Humanities Medal and National Medal of Arts awardees include actors Mel Brooks and Morgan Freeman, composer and musician Wynton Marsalis, record producer and songwriter Berry Gordy, and two New Jersey residents acclaimed writer James McBride and religion scholar Elaine Pagels.

    The National Humanities Medal is awarded to individuals or organizations whose work has deepened the nation’s understanding of the human experience, broadened citizen engagement with history and literature or helped preserve and expand Americans’ access to cultural resources.
