The 2017 Vintage Base Ball season gets underway with an opening day match at Historic Basto Village in Hammonton this Saturday.

The Elizabeth Resolutes will compete against the Hoboken Nine in a double header starting at 11 a.m..

The two clubs are part of a league that reenacts baseball as it was played in the 19th century, using official rules from the era.

That means the match will be played bare-handed.

Wool uniforms, equipment and even sportsmanship also hark back to the days when it was a gentleman’s game.

The field will be laid out by the teams just prior to start. Attendees are encourages to bring lawn chair and blankets. The second game commences at 1 p.m.

Admission and parking are free.

Saturday, Apr 8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – 31 Bast Rd., Hammonton, N.J.
