United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania announces community impact investments for 2012-2014

United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania announced today the recipients of its three-year community impact investments for 2012-2014.

This portion of the organization’s funding totals more than $10 million annually in general operating support grants to nonprofit organizations serving communities in Montgomery, Delaware, Chester and Philadelphia counties, according to a release from United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

“At United Way, we never forget that we are investing other people’s money,” President and CEO Jill Michal said in the release. “We have a responsibility to our community and our donors to demonstrate the impact of their investments.  In this unprecedented new economy, we will all be challenged to do more with less.”

The grants given to nonprofits are meant to fund programs for Education for Children (helping children to enter kindergarten prepared to learn), Income for Families (helping people build skills and get jobs that pay a family-sustaining wage) and Health for Seniors (ensuring older adults have access to services that help them age in their homes and communities).

All human services agencies in the region had the opportunity to apply for these grants. Recipients were chosen based on alignment with United Way priorities and the organization’s ability to demonstrate concrete, measurable results against those priorities, according to the release.
