Three University of Delaware students face charges following a home invasion and assault on April 19.

Police say the incident happened at an apartment on Wrightstown Lane in Newark. Around 2 a.m., three men entered the unlocked apartment, then kicked open a locked bedroom door where they found a man and woman, who were also students at UD. Police say the three intruders punched, kicked and even hit the male victim with candle jar. The woman was unharmed.

Police say the attack ended when another woman walked into the bedroom to intervene. The victim suffered a broken cheekbone, as well as cuts to the face and head that required stitches and staples.

Police have charged Andrew Lee of Virginia, Jason Zimmell and Ayrton Doerr, both of New Jersey, in connection with the attack. The trio face charges including home invasion, assault and criminal mischief. Police believe the motive may be connected to a relationship between Lee and the female victim that recently ended. They say the suspects and victims all knew each other.
