Tree Me! Free trees from Parks and Rec
Philadelphia aims to plant 300,000 new trees before 2015, and that means free trees are available for the taking. Today, TreePhilly, a program of the Department of Parks and Recreation, will kick off its free yard tree campaign.
The Daily News reports that while any property owner can get a free tree from TreePhilly, the city will target neighborhoods where the tree canopy is thinnest and trees can help absorb stormwater: West Oak Lane, Tioga, Old Kensington, Frankford, Morrel Park, South Philadelphia, Whitman and Haddington.
So, property owners, take your pick from small varieties like flowering dogwood or larger ones like sugar maple. Register for a your tree online at treephilly.org or calling (215) 683-0217.
