Transportation plan meeting

Since flying cars probably won’t be the solution to traffic even in the year 2040, planners are looking for input on how to deal with the county’s growth over the next 30 years.
The Wilmington Area Planning Council (WILMAPCO) will hear comments on the its draft  2040 update Regional Transportation Plan for both New Castle County in Delaware and Cecil County in Maryland.  You can look at the plan on the group’s website, wilmapco.org.  The plan cites some major challenges facing the region’s transportation infrastructure, especially the economy.  “One overriding challenge is that our anticipated transportation needs far exceed the funds available to pay for them,” the report states.

Public comments on the plan will be accepted at WILMAPCO’s Our Town event at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Newark from 4 to 7 PM tonight.  You can register at wilmapco.org/our-town.  Written comments can be sent to WILMAPCO at 850 Library Avenue, Suite 100, Newark, Delaware, or to wilmapco@wilmapco.org.

The plan could be adopted at the WILMAPCO Council  meeting on January 13.
