Transplanted Gemelli’s opening on Main St.

Fans of the now-closed Gemelli restaurant in Narbeth will be relieved to know that chef Clark Gilbert is taking his classically trained cooking skills to Main Street in Manayunk.

Gemelli’s on Main is set to launch by the end of the month.  The menu will be similar, traditional Italian cuisines with a touch of French inspiration.  Gilbert trained with famed local chef Jean-Francois Taquet.  A glance at the menu shows some old reliables such as fettucini and snapper, and some more exotic fare such as rabbit and “pig cheeks.”

Here’s the big difference from Narbert: Gemelli’s on Main will have a liquor license, while the Narberth version was a BYOB.

The new location at 4161 Main Street is also larger, an open, bilevel space directly across from the Lock Street Parking lot. Gilbert could not be reached for comment.

Jane Lipton, executive director of the Manayunk Development Corporation, said she believes that Gemelli’s on Main will be a “really great anchor” for the surrounding businesses.

Lipton also mentioned that the owners of Gemelli’s on Main hope have told her they hope to be open, at least to offer some tasting samples, for the upcoming Manayunk Arts Festival, which will take place next weekend.
