Well, time will tell how our latest predicted snow storm will pan out, but if we end up with a substantial white covering in NW Philly, many families will be looking for the perfect sledding spot. Here are the top three spots recommended by readers:

Tommy’s Hill in Germantown: This one seems to be the pinnacle of sledding in our area. Sledders have a great long run down a nice steep hill that gets packed down nicely by the crowds. A very popular sledding spot for kids of all ages. (Near Thomas Mansion/Clifford Park)

The Water Tower in Chestnut Hill: This one has a variety of hills and runs, so little kids or budding snowboarders can toddle up and down small hills, while bigger kids can choose slightly longer runs. This spot gets packed, so by the end of the day, much of the snow gets worn away when we have just a few inches. (200 E. Hartwell Lane)

Fernhill Park in Germantown: While there are some smaller hills to keep little ones occupied, many argue the park’s main hill offers the best sledding hill in the city. Plus, the surrounding trees and open park make it a true winter wonderland. (Intersection of Wissahickon and Abbottsford).

And our unofficial tip: while area golf courses may offer some great sledding spots, several also have “NO SLEDDING” signs, so you may want to feel that one out on your own.
