Thousands turn out for Cabela’s grand opening in Delaware
Cabela’s fiercely loyal fans turned out in droves for the grand opening of the company’s newest store at the Christiana Mall in Delaware.
The line stretched for almost a half a mile as eager shoppers waited for their first chance to step inside Cabela’s newest store.
For Paul Diprima of Newark, Thursday’s grand opening was his first visit to a Cabela’s store.
“This is an impressive line here,” Diprima said. “This is what the mall [and the whole area] needed.”
Even those who had expected a big crowd were surprised by the turnout.
“Isn’t it amazing?” asked Linda McKay, director of Membership and Events at the Greater Wilmington Convention and Visitors Bureau. “They say there’s over 4,000 people that came out today.”
The 100,000 sq. ft. store is smaller than the traditional Cabela’s store, but its close proximity to other shopping amenities makes it ideal for tour groups planning trips in the First State.
“We can’t wait for the people to come into this area to shop and stay,” McKay said. “There’s lots of things to do and we’re really excited.”
