Theater of war

Musket balls were not the only thing flying through the air in last week’s Revolutionary War reenactment at Cliveden.  The prelude to the Battle of Germantown 2011 was a circus.  A very small circus, a three-person circus.

Before the rockets red glared, the agile Give and Take Jugglers performed on the front lawn of Upsala, across the street from the Cliveden House.

The jugglers went much further than “keeping more objects than hands in the air,” as their leader Dave Gillies of Germantown put it. They delighted a large crowd of children, parents and local boy scouts with a tight rope, trapeze, trombone, and tuba in addition.
