The Collingswood Holiday Parade is this week
Collingswood gets into the Christmas spirit this weekend with a visit from Santa and the annual Holiday Parade, a tradition since 1989.
When: Friday, Nov 27 at 7 p.m., and Saturday Nov. 28, at 10 a.m.
Where: Haddon Ave., Collingswood, NJ.
Two day event
Festivities begin even earlier. On Friday night at 7 p.m., Santa Claus ushers in the season by descending from the top of Borough Hall with some help from Collingswood Fire Department’s ladder firetruck..
He arrives in time for the official tree lighting ceremony, featuring choral groups singing favorite holiday carols and snow machines creating a winter wonderland atmosphere.
On Saturday morning, things get even more festive along Collingswood’s main drag with the Holiday Parade.
Scores of bands, dancers, floats, vehicles and entertainers will take part in the two-hour procession. Highlights include mummers like the Ferko, Fralinger and Old Timers string bands, Miss Camden County, Samantha Rizzuto, the Phillie Phanatic and vintage cars of the Garden State Corvette Club.
The Jolly Old Elf himself will appear last, riding atop a firetruck decked out in holiday lights. The parade begins 10 a.m. on Haddon Ave. at Zane Ave. and continues through the heart of town, ending at W. Linden Ave.
Both events kick off the holiday season for the borough, packed with free visits with Santa on weekends, caroling and holiday concerts, plus free parking and extended shopping hours.
