Teen suspects sought in robbery of wheelchair-bound child

New Castle County Police are looking for two suspects in connection to the robbery of a 12-year-old confined to a wheelchair.

On Monday afternoon, police were called to the unit block of Buchanan Circle in the Christiana Green subdivision for the report of a robbery.

Officers arrived and learned the victim was exercising outside in his wheelchair when two boys ran up behind him. The suspects, described by police as being approximately 12 to 14-years-of age, pushed the victim’s wheelchair from behind, causing it to get stuck in a storm grate.

The two suspects then assaulted the victim, whose name was not released by police, and fled on foot with a lanyard and key.

Further investigation revealed a similar incident occurred days earlier with the same suspects assaulting and threatening the victim. Officers canvassed the area and notified residents of the incident.

Police provided the following description of the suspects:

Suspect #1 – African-American male, 12 to 14-years-old, 4’8″ tall, thin build with short black hair.
Suspect #2 – Caucasian male, 12 to 14-years-old, 4’8” tall, regular build with short blond hair and a small birth mark on his hand.

Police are asking anyone with any information related to this incident to call the New Castle County Police Department at (302) 573-2800 or submit tips online at www.nccpd.com.
