Target shrinks stores to nestle into downtown Philly, Main Line

A mini version of a giant retailer could be coming to Center City and the Main Line.

Target Express is a concept by the big box retailer to bring its mega stores down to a much smaller level.

Tom Londres, president and chief executive of Metro Commercial Real Estate Incorporated, has been tasked with finding spaces of 10,000 to 30,000 square feet to fit versions of the department store  in   areas not now served by Target.

“It’s to leverage their brand, which the suburban customer has become accustomed to, has frequented, enjoyed,” he said. “Now they are coming to newer markets where they do not have a lot of presence.”

As the company negotiates for two Center City locations, Londres said it is looking for more sites. The first small store could open within the next year or two.
