SugarHouse pays state $16.5 million table games fee

SugarHouse Casino Tuesday paid the state a $16.5 million fee to operate table games.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board last month approved SugarHouse’s request to offer table games. SugarHouse plans to open in September with 40 tables, including blackjack, craps, roulette, mini baccarat, Pai Gow poker, three-card poker and four-card poker, along with slot machines.
“Adding table games to our mix enables us to bring 306 more jobs and an estimated $5 million in added tax revenue to our community,” said Wendy Hamilton, general manager of SugarHouse Casino, in a printed statement.
The casino is currently accepting applications for dealer school, which is scheduled to begin in July. Dealer school is a free, eight-week program for selected candidates who are interested in training to become a table games dealer.
The last steel beam in the casino’s frame was recently placed at the Fishtown facility.
